Medicare is a federal health insurance program for people age 65 and older. It’s one of
several social safety nets in place to help provide for seniors in their retirement years.

Here are the five most basic questions that we are asked at Johnson Insurance Co in Hartwell, Georgia.
1. How do I get my Medicare started? Answer: in most cases, Medicare Part A automatically starts at age 65. Part B will automatically start with Part A if you already receive social security payments. If you do not receive social security payments, you will need to call the social security administration or visit their website to request Part B to start.
2. Can I work and be covered by Medicare? Absolutely. Medicare is not just for retired individuals. If you are eligible for Medicare you can work as little or as much as you want. Keep in mind that you will need to consult with social security to find out how much income you can make and how it’s taxed.
3. What if I don’t want to enroll in Medicare and keep my group plan while I continue working? Yes you can do that. You will want to make sure you delay your Medicare Part B to a later date so that you don’t pay for coverage you don’t need. If you don’t receive social security then there’s nothing to do. If you do receive social security you want to contact them and notify that you want to delay your Part B.
4. How do I know what plan I should enroll in? Medicare can be confusing and there’s many options. Having a one on one consultation is recommended so that one of our agents can ask the right questions. Your individual needs and circumstances determine whether a Medicare supplement and Part D prescription plan or a Medicare Advantage plan is right for you.
5. How do I make sure my drugs and doctors are covered? Careful review of the drug formulary and doctor networks with an agent is recommended. Inputting each medication and doctor assures that the plan you enroll in is the right plan for you. This process reduces the chance of issues you may have experience.
